A last-minute Tuesday night show at the Lager House has been scheduled for September 21 with Montreal-based one-man-band Bloodshot Bill. You can find out what you need to know about this rockabilly lone wolf from his website: www.bloodshotbill.com. Uh-hunh-uh-hunh-uh-hunh.

Seems like a lot of things have come to pass in the last couple of weeks:

Jawbone in MOJO: MOJO magazine will include a Jawbone version of Johnny Cash's 'Get Rhythm' on a Man In Black tribute cover-mount cd to be included with their October 2004 issue.

Loose Music will be releasing a split 7" featuring Jawbone and Mudhoney's Steve Turner sometime this fall. Steve Turner's 'Maybe Baby' was recorded at Toerag Studio in London and features vocals with Holly Golightly. Jawbone's 'If It's Rock' is a featured track from the album 'dang blues', which will be released in Europe and Australia through Loose on August 30. More info as it becomes available.

Somehow the 'My Daddy' mp3 on the dangblues.com website made it onto some sort of anti-Bush web-radio/video playlist on a site called webjay.org, and the song has been downloaded over 2500 times this month so far. The Kerry campaign has yet to send me a check, or even a free bottle of ketchup.

Made my AM radio debut on Monday just before the Tastefest gig on Detroit's major news/talk/sports station WJR, 'The Great Voice of the Great Lakes'. Their daytime talk dj Warren Pierce wanted to do some promotional spots for the tastefest, so I got a call a couple of hours before the show asking if I'd come down early and do a five minute interview. He was very nice, but really had no idea what I was about or anything, which I wouldn't have expected anyway, and was part of the fun. He kept calling me 'Jawbones'. He asked me to play something so I did some 'Ready or Not', which he seemed puzzled by. I just kept thinking about all the people coming home from up north on I-75 tuning in to see how long they're gonna be stuck in traffic, and instead, getting an earful of my harmonica/whooping/carpet-stomping. Made me proud to be an American.

Jawbone signs with Loose Music

Loose
After many power lunches and late-night phone call death threats, Dang Blues has been licensed by the UK's Loose Music for distribution in Europe and Australia, which puts me on a label roster that includes fellow Detroiters Blanche, The Handsome Family, Mary Lou Lord, and the Willard Grant Conspiracy, among others. The CD will be slightly re-packaged (as a digipak instead of a jewel case) and is scheduled for release on August 30. Look for it in a store near you (if you live in Europe or Australia, that is). It's a pretty sure thing that I'll be going back to the UK in the fall for a small tour and (I hope) another Peel Session, maybe with some shows on the mainland as well.

The Jawbone 7-inch single on Rex Records is now available. It features 2 songs from Dang Blues, Hi-de-hi b/w Walter John. It's available in UK music stores that carry Rex (Rough Trade for sure, but there are others). Since Rex is associated with XL Recordings, it can also be puchased online through XL's online shop, and I'll have them available at shows as well.

The Man Himself Back from London. The highlights were of course playing the Peel Session (see pics), meeting the man himself, playing some shows, seeing London, meeting all kinds of great people, and discovering some new (and old - George 'Bongo Joe' Coleman!) music. Hopefully I'll get a chance to go back again later in the year for another Peel spot and some shows in other parts of the country. In short: Expensive. Friendly. Alcohol. Tobacco. Strange Meats. More sun than Detroit.

The Jawbone 7-inch single on Rex Records should be out in the the UK on May 3. It features 2 songs from the 'dang blues' album, Hi-de-hi and Walter John. I'll have some for sale through dangblues.com and at shows sometime in the near future.

Also, finally got some t-shirts printed up, and they're available through the website and at shows as well. See the buy page for more info.

A lot of last-minute juggling of shows in London around the Peel Session. Basically now there will only be 2 live appearances on this mini-tour: the Artrocker show at the Buffalo Bar Tuesday April 13 and the 12 Bar Club on Saturday April 17. See the shows page for the details. Info on numerous London radio appearances can be found there as well.

Also, new reviews on the reviews page from The Big Takeover and americana-uk.com.

Jawbone wins the Real Detroit 2004 Best of Detroit voters poll for Best Blues Artist/Group. I find this a little strange, as my mom doesn't even read Real Detroit. Anyway, I'd like to thank Harvey Weinstein, distinguished members of the academy...

Mike Murphy wrote a really nice piece on Jawbone in this week's Detroit MetroTimes.

23 Feb 2004
A live Peel Session has been confirmed for Wednesday, April 14. Other London shows are also in the works for that week. More info on the shows page. MetroTimes Hamtramck Blowout date also confirmed for Saturday, March 6. Details on shows page as well.

Working to confirm a live John Peel Session on BBC Radio 1's John Peel Show. Right now it looks like late April/early May, nothing set yet. Trying to set up a few shows in the UK at the same time.

Also, you can hear excerpts from Jawbone's interview/performance on Dearborn's WHFR 89.3 FM on the listen page.

Over There -- 'dang blues' looks like it's getting a goodly amount of airplay over in Europe, most notably appearing on the well-known John Peel Show on BBC's Radio 1. He's said a lot of nice things about the disc and has put the green light on doing a Peel Session when I can make it over there. Don't know how/when I could do it, but it would be quite an honor, like being knighted. Arise, Sir Loin of Beef...

Played the door (pics) at the Detroit Sounds and Spirits show at the Magic Stick last Friday. It was a little chilly (28 degrees, flurries), so I think most of the dancing that broke out was as much an attempt to keep warm as anything else.

I've managed to finagle my way on to the bill for the 2nd annual 'Detroit Sounds and Spirits' holiday extravaganza at the Magic Stick this Friday, December 19. I say 'on' instead of 'in' because, weather permitting, I'll be setting up and performing on the sidewalk outside the club. Or I might be playing inside, in a corner of the entranceway just inside the door. We'll see. But the show inside should be great: Two stages with all number of Detroit-rock scenesters doing Christmas tunes, weather reports, and lots of ad-lib, holiday-spirited fun thrown in. It's $15 to get in, but it's a charity event for an agency well worth supporting (COTS, a local agency providing temporary shelter). Show starts 10pm sharp.

The new Jawbone cd DANG BLUES is out, and it looks like this:

Basic black and white with a little red (just like my old truck, sniff), it's 13 1/2 songs about pistol canes, fried chicken backs, rivers on fire, and the Egyptian dance scene. It'll be for available for purchase at all upcoming shows, and at Detroit-area local-music-friendly record shops soon.

17 Oct 2003
A last minute show at Rubber Soul Records in Ypsilanti has just been added, supporting Fat Possum Recording Artist Paul 'Wine' Jones. Show starts 8pm.

19 Sep 2003
A return to Club Bart on Sunday, Oct. 12 playing with The Volebeats.

16 Sep 2003
Another show at The Lager House on Friday, Oct 3, this time opening for Slim Cessna's Auto Club and Bill Parker and His Motherscratchers.
